(these are the things that Pokerface Bullies will do) It is someone who can tell you what their breeding goal is in OEB's (like size, temperament, and lines). It is someone who keeps their dogs in conditions that you would keep your own dog in. It is someone who is willing to take the time to answer all your questions and give advice on raising a puppy. It is someone who will respond to your questions via phone or e-mails in a timely manner throughout the life of your dog. It is someone who will take back any dog they have bred so it does not end up in an animal shelter. It is someone who will allow you to visit their home, meet the mother and father of the puppies, or if they do not own the father they will provide you with his owner's contact info. It is someone who can provide with at least a 3-generation picture pedigree of your puppy. It is someone who will not breed their female before she is physically and mentally mature (usually at 18 months or more in some) and will never do more than one back to back breeding. |
| As of 2010, we have stopped breeding our dogs. OEB breeders and the dogs have really taken a turn for the worse and it is really disheartening how money hungry people can be. Some examples of what some breeders are doing in Michigan, for example, are breeding a puppy before it is a year old, breeding their females on every heat, claiming the have blue puppies, keeping their dogs in conditions that you wouldn't keep your chickens in, breeding dogs with serious health and/or temperament problems, and crossing two non-OEB breeds and selling them as OEB's. This is just a short list of what I have seen in Michigan, I am sure there are even worse things happening country-wide. The only reason that people are doing this is because OEB's sell for over $1000 and they will cut every corner to make a profit from these dogs. A good and ethical breeder who cares about their dogs will usually just make enough to break even and not get rich off of it. People can say whatever the want on their websites to make themselves look good and their dogs look like they are well taken care of. Please visit a breeder before you buy, if there is anything that makes you 2nd guess them please go elsewhere. It takes alot more than just owning an intact female to be a good breeder. Even though I am not breeding anymore, I plan on keeping a close eye on breeders. There are some really good ones that I can recommend and I will always love to talk bulldogges with anyone. |
