| My husband and I live near the beautiful shore of Lake Michigan in mid-Michigan. My husband always wanted an English Bulldog but after hearing about all their health / breathing problems we decided against the breed. We still wanted a bullish breed, so the search was on. We saw pictures of an OEB in Dog Fancy but knew little of the breed. I spent considerable time researching the breed and found there was a wide range of OEB's out there. Being that this is a "newer" breed (since 70's), there are many different lines of OEB's out there ranging from 140# monster size bullies, to high energy "drive" working OEB's, to ones that are very bully, to even crosses between Oldes to English or American bulldogs. Since I was considering the possibility of becoming a breeder, I wanted to adhere to a stricter standard so I chose the IOEBA standard (which can be seen at www.ioeba.net). I didn't want any crossbreeds and searched for generational registered Olde x Olde pups. Our breeding goal is to produce a multi-generational OEB that is between 50 - 90 # with a medium energy/drive that is designed to be indoor family companions. Color isn't important to us but I tend to like bulldogges that are white with bold patches of color so most of our puppies will be that way also. As of March 2010, we will no longer be breeding our dogs. While we have enjoyed the experience it take lots of time that we would rather just spend enjoying our dogs as pets. A spayed or neutered dog makes a much better pet (less hormones, stress of confinement during heats, stress on everyone,etc...). We still love the breed and will keep a close eye on the breeders, especially in Michigan, so feel free to call us or e-mail us anytime and we can help direct you to an ethical breeder or just talk about bulldogges! |
